Personal 3D Asset Creation Tutorial Recommendations

I put together a big list of tutorials that helped me a lot when learning how to make stuff for use in VRChat a while back on Twitter and wanted to preserve it and add to it here. There's no one perfect tutorial as aspects from all of them need to be incorporated when learning how to make stuff and you have to consider optimization as an end-goal. Hopefully this helps someone!

*This is a living document and I will update it over time as I find things that I think are generally useful for people to know with this context in mind
**Disclaimer: I am not a professional and please take these recommendations with that in mind. I hope that this collection of stuff that helped me over the past two years can help other learners too.

Clothes

Modeling a Jacket - This teaches a lot of good practices for making clothes and maintaining good topology throughout using the Multires Modifier to sculpt non-destructively.

As a follow-up to these videos, you'll want to incorporate these techniques to bake the textures:

Generally Useful Plugins

Note: Plugins aren’t “cheating”, a lot are included with blender and are intended as part of your workflow once you get comfy. Don’t shy away from using them and overwork yourself to learn some convoluted method when a plugin is just a checkbox away. (I say this because I’ve done that (looking at Loop Tools plugin).

-Robust Weight Transfer
-UV Squares
-Blenderkit open asset library

Quick and Easy Plugins to turn on: In Blender under Edit> Preferences> Add-Ons, turn on:-Node Wrangler (enables several things for Shading nodes, I generally use Ctrl+T to quickly add a mapping node, and Ctrl+Shift+Click to preview what a node looks like on the final output)-Extra Objects (adds common starting objects to save time when blocking out)-Loop Tools (adds tools to better handle loops, like relaxing them, making them circular, flattening them, etc. One of my most used plugins)

Light Baking

I don't really know too much about it if I'm being honest but I purchased Bakery and blindly followed this guide and got exactly the results I wanted so I consider that a pretty good review of it: Light Baking and You by Silent
